Abstract:
This paper studies the effect of labor shortage on firm level outcomes in Hungary. We combine survey data on labor shortage with balance sheet and matched employer-employee data. As firms report labor shortage more likely after positive demand shocks, we use firm-to-firm transitions to instrument labor shortage. Results show that firms react to skill specific labor shortage by increasing the wages at the same skill level in the quarterly time horizon and labor shortage has significant negative impact on firm revenue and investment.
