Short professional bio

György Molnár finished his studies in mathematics at Eötvös Loránd University Budapest, in 1977. He has been working at our institute since 1978. In the first period of his career his main research fields were the structural changes and income redistribution in the Hungarian economy, using input-output analysis. Between 1990 and 1992 he was working for the UNIDO as a consultant. Since 1995 – after defending his PhD thesis “Equilibrium and Disequilibrium in a Disaggregated Classical Model” – he has been senior research fellow at our institute.

In the second part of the 1990s, his research interest turned to the problems of the changing income and expenditure structure of the Hungarian households. His research interests include welfare economics, household economics, inequality, income mobility, consumption demand, subjective mobility, and subjective well-being (happiness research), problems of microcredit to the poor. From 2005 he has been the member of the Statistical Comittee of Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
